After what seemed like months glued to my computer, I took a few days away from it all and read some books. I also walked up to the library with my son, where we both got our first Seattle Public Library cards. This is slightly embarrassing, since we've lived a few blocks from the Greenwood Branch for over four years. But, we did it. We ended up checking out a huge pile of books and movies before we remembered we had to carry them home. The books I chose were a little weird, as library books can be, but interesting nonetheless. I was inspired to do some new things with my non-existent back yard garden, looked into some design options for the little house we are building this summer, and really laughed out loud at a photo from Jonathan Adler's book.
Here's a partial summary of my reading material {with a movie thrown in for good measure}
Bohemian Modern {Living in Silverlake}
While visiting a good friend, I was introduced to this book by Barbara Bestor, and we have been morning coffee partners ever since. The average application of 'modern' tends to drive me nuts, but the homes in this book brought on a change of heart.
Green Thoughts {A Writer in the Garden}
Initially, the cover drew me in, and I wanted to live in that tree. Then, I started reading about compost, and decided that it was one of the best books ever. Even if you hate to garden, you should read it.
Home is a fascinating book by Witold Rybczynski. It plots the course of homes through their various forms and the reasons behind the way they are. It actually made me think quite differently about houses, bathrooms, and home functionality. He also wrote The most Beautiful House in the World which I am just starting to read.
Moroccan Interiors
Moroccan Interiors
is like the comfort food of books for me - I sit down with it anytime I
am feeling blue. The details, the stars, the colors, the silver, the
books, all of it is amazing.
My Prescription to Anti-Depressive Living is really quite funny. {ah, the library} Jonathan Adler makes a ceramic owl that I must have someday.
While on my break, I decided to re-watch Addicted to Love, where I first came across Bohemian Hellhole. I love their spy-loft, the cactus and Meg Ryan's bathrobe.
Remodeling in my mind,
